Reuters, citing unnamed sources, says the US intel community is examining how Iran would respond to the US declaring victory in the war.
That Trump is even considering this is another sign that he’s done with the war. The ‘examination’ part is whether they would open Hormuz.
The result may be that we essentially go back to pre-war. Hormuz is open, Iran remains sanctioned and it repairs hundreds of billions in damages.
Just now, Trump is posing on Truth in response to yesterday’s criticism from Germany:
The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, thinks it’s OK for Iran to
have a Nuclear Weapon. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about! If Iran
had a Nuclear Weapon, the whole World would be held hostage. I am doing
something with Iran, right now, that other Nations, or Presidents,

Again he’s focused on nuclear. Obviously Trump would like a nuclear deal but that’s looking out of reach. If he declares victory, he could simply say that the US is satellite monitoring Fordow and that any activity will result in bombing.
Even if Iran doesn’t open Hormuz right away, Trump could leave that job to the rest of the world by declaring victory.
This is what Merz said yesterday:
“The Iranians are obviously very skilled at negotiating, or rather,
very skillful at not negotiating, letting the Americans travel to
Islamabad and then leave again without any result,” Chancellor Friedrich
Merz said.
“An
entire nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership, especially
by these so-called Revolutionary Guards. And so I hope that this ends
as quickly as possible,” Merz said.
